Installation of just the basin for the sump pump is needed at this stage of the project.  The weeping tile will soon be connected to the basin and if groundwater levels rise enough the basin will fill with water, to be pumped back out to lower ground.  Varying soil conditions are encountered when excavating for the basin.  More often than not, terribly rocky and hard soil in an undisturbed and densely compacted form is found.  The only solution here is use of a large hammer drill with a spade bit to chisel out the ground to the proper depth that. This is one of the many nasty jobs encountered when house building.  A human powered shovel or pick cannot possibly remove the packed rocks.  Lacking the large budget to purchase this tool, I rented it from the nearby Home Depot.
